Are You Running on Impulses?

Have you ever heard the expression people use, “I had an impulse to…”? Some people have an impulse to run up to a microphone and sing a song, but it does not mean they should. By definition, impulse means, a force that starts a body into motion or an arousing of the mind and spirit to action.

One day when our girls were young, the Lord revealed to me when we have an impulse to do something it first starts out as a thought. I saw in a vision where I had been falling into Satan’s trap for some time, but it was not obvious to me because I had been so busy I was not being sensitive to His voice. He said it was like I was running a relay race.

I saw myself in a vision on a track ready to run. I was waiting for the baton to be relayed to me. As soon as I received the baton in my hand, I took off running down the track at full force, not looking back. But I was always running into a big brick wall. In the vision I kept seeing myself accepting the baton relayed to me, running down the track and into a brick wall over and over again. I asked the Lord, why am I running into this brick wall continuously? And He said to me, “Because you are not looking back to who is relaying the baton to you.” He said, “The baton is like a thought. The thought is being relayed to me, but I’m not looking back to see who is relaying it to me. Is it a team member that God sent passing the baton? Or is it a team member that Satan sent passing the baton?”

Think about what force is arousing your mind and spirit to action? There are two forces in the spiritual realm. Either we are sensitive to God’s Word and His voice or we’re not. If we’re not, we will hear the other voices that are in the spiritual realm. That is why God said we should know what is right to do and then do it.

Whether God is dictating to us, or Satan, we still have our own choice and our own will to do what is right. Either we grab the right baton or we don’t because Satan cannot force us to do anything. We have our own free will.

Most people do not know what drives them to do things. The Bible tells us in 1 Corinthians 15:33 be careful of the people with whom we associate. It also tells us in Proverbs 4:23 be careful what we lend our ears to.

Do not be deceived: "Evil company corrupts good habits." 1 Corinthians 15:33 Above all else, guard your heart, for it affects everything you do. Proverbs 4:23

Wow! I understood then when God says, “Don’t be ignorant to the wiles (schemes or methods) of the devil.” I knew the scriptures about taking our thoughts captive and not every thought comes from above and yet look what happened!

Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5

The Message Bible says:

We use our powerful God-tools for smashing warped philosophies, tearing down barriers erected against the truth of God, fitting every loose thought and emotion and Impulse into the structure of life shaped by Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5

It 's important to keep our lives in order. Keeping our lives in order and organized allows us to have freedom and spontaneity. But when we are so busy running around doing the same things every day, our growth process stops and we are not sensitive enough to hear from the Holy Spirit so He can lead us into new growth. We are too busy doing the same routine every day. Remember, Satan’s job is to keep us in disorder. This is why it is so hard to get things in order and keep things in order.

In the Spiritual realm you get a whole lot of negative help without even realizing it. The negative forces affect the minds of people when they are not sensitive to how spiritual laws work or how the enemy operates in their minds, which is their battleground. Therefore they keep doing the same routine every day. Sammy talks more about this in his CD series Do You Want This Year to Be The Same As Last Year? I don’t, do you?
